Re: Open House for launch of new business & fundraising initiatives

The Bridges Foundation is opening its location at 41 Whites Bridge Road in Windham, ME with an Open House May 22nd, 11 am – 1 pm.  Bridges Foundation’s commercial business, L-oma Buckwheat Pillows, will also be housed at their location, and as part of the Open House we will be officially unveiling a new street and a new building sign, announcing our presence in the community.  L-oma Buckwheat Pillows is an established, internationally recognized business which employs people with special needs in all aspects of its operation.  100% of its’ proceeds support community-based recreational, social and vocational opportunities for people with disabilities (for more information on L-oma Buckwheat Pillows please go to our website  Up to now, L-oma has principally conducted its business on the internet; this Open House represents the start of our effort to launch a commercial store in Windham, adding to an already thriving business community.

Following the Open House, The Bridges Foundation will host its second annual fundraising Walk around the Back Cove (Baxter Boulevard) in Portland Saturday, May 31 at noon.  Last year, our Walk was a tremendous success, and the public is encouraged to come out and support the Foundation in raising funds to promote and provide employment opportunities through L-oma and other ventures and to increase the number and variety of social and recreational activities for people with disabilities.  Whether showing your support by walking, donating time or money, all efforts are greatly appreciated.  FMI please call (207) 939 4228.

Over this next year, L-oma will be broadening its product line to include disability-friendly items such as weighted vests & blankets, adaptive equipment and toys and other resources, to provide the surrounding community with a physical destination to explore the wide array of products helpful to individuals with disabilities.  Representatives from a variety of organizations will be attending: Cuddledown (L-oma pillows are featured prominently in their retail stores), St. Joseph’s College, the Maine Autism Society, and Stonehedge Music Festivals (which will present a check from last year’s fundraising events they held on our behalf, and together we will announce this year’s concert fundraising events).  Light refreshments will be served.

The Bridges Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization based in Windham, ME.  We provide employment, social & recreational opportunities for persons with disabilities.   All our products are made by individuals with disabilities, and all sales proceeds go toward programs and services for these same individuals.  Our goal is to have persons with disabilities be able to fund their own services while earning a living wage.  Volunteers devote their time and energy in the hope of creating a new paradigm in service provision to people with disabilities.  We hope to blend the best aspects of the non-profit and for-profit sectors to assist persons with disabilities while providing the public with products and services worthy of its dollar, at the same time seeing everyone profit.
